Our featured speaker is Kerry Mendez, owner of Perennial Yours in Ballston Spa, New York, a frequent contributor to HGTV and many national magazines including Fine Gardening. Kerry is author of The Ultimate Flower Gardener's Top Ten Lists (2010), and will have a really new book—coming out in May—on shade gardening, just in time for us!

Schedule for the day:

  • 3:00pm: A Walk in the Garden with Kerry Mendez
    and Sally Cunningham:     Join garden experts Kerry Mendez and Sally Cunningham for an infomative tour of the perennials and shrubs of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. We will walk and talk with you, show you the garden’s selection of superior cultivars of great plants for Western New York, and answer your questions.
  • 4:00pm: Book sale/signing opportunity
  • 4:30pm, in the Botanical Garden meeting room:
    Tips for Low-Maintenance, High Impact Perennial Gardens, by Kerry Mendez:
    Learn to create and care for great looking, ever-blooming gardens using organic practices. Recommendations include plant selection, design tips, mulch, fertilizer, maintenance shortcuts and more. (An opportunity for book signing and sales follows the talk.) .For registration information and fees, see below.
  • 5:30 press conference/ tour inside the Botanical Gardens
  • 6:00 to 8:30pm: Welcoming Reception: Help us launch the National Garden Festival, 2011!
    Join us for food and drinks and meet the gardeners, speakers, organizers, and directors of this great WNY event. You’ll have the opportunity to register early (with price breaks) for limited-seating bus tours, seminars, and pick up a schedule for all the other festival activities. You’ll also be able to purchase our signature “Great Green Umbrella,” a tee shirt or terra cotta plant pot coffee mug. Door prizes throughout the evening!

Registration and Fees: Pre-registration is required for this event, in order to calculate our seating arrangements and food. Registration will be available online at BuffaloGardens.com after March 10.

    Keynote presentation, and party: $24. (Party only: $6)
  • After June 10: Entire program: $28. Party only: $10.
